re·bus is the online postgraduate journal of the Department of Art History and Theory at the University of Essex. Its aim is to further critical debate in this and related fields through the publication of the work of students of the department, and the proceedings of postgraduate conferences. The range of approaches and subject matters reflects the rich diversity of a department renowned for the scholarship of its staff and students alike.
By publishing re·bus online, we hope to reach a wider audience than a conventional print format would allow, producing a journal that reflects innovative scholarship and editorial rigour rather than the stresses of marketing and subscriptions. Our editorial strategy is one that embraces interdisciplinarity and academic experimentation. We welcome submissions from students outside of the department, whose work reflects an interest in visual cultures.
All material is considered for publication in re·bus on the understanding that it is original and that any similar or related material submitted or in press elsewhere is disclosed at submission. Copyright is retained by authors who are at liberty to republish their work with due acknowledgement of re·bus where it is the place of first publication. With the exception of fair dealing for the purposes of research or private study, or criticism or review, no part of this publication may be reproduced, stored or transmitted in any form or by any means without the prior permission in writing from the copyright holder.
