rebus | a journal of art history & theory

re·bus: a representation of words in the form of pictures or symbols, often presented as a puzzle.

re·bus is the new postgraduate journal of the Department of Art History and Theory at the University of Essex launched in Spring 2008.  Founded and edited by postgraduate students of the department, the journal publishes peer reviewed papers that present new research and fresh perspectives on art and its histories as well as related aspects of cultural theory.

The current issue (Spring/Summer 2010) is devoted to articles arising from the postgraduate conference ‘Photography into Contemporary Art: The Bigger Picture,’ held in May 2009 at the University of Essex as part of Essex and the University of Warwick's joint HHRC funded project 'Aesthetics after Photography.' It includes contributions from academics and postgraduate students from the UK and abroad.
