MA Students
Internationally renowned for our strengths in art theory and in both
Renaissance and modern art, we offer an MA in Art History and Theory that
includes a choice of modules covering a wide range of topics. This study level
contains a strong research element, normally culminating in a 20,000 word
dissertation on a topic of the student’s choice. All students on this MA, and on
the MA in Gallery Studies with Dissertation, take the core modules Researching
Art History I and II. The first of these develops reading and writing skills
through the examination of challenging theoretical and philosophical texts
relevant to the study of the visual arts, while the second provides specialist
training in the research methods and skills that students will need in
researching and writing their 20,000 word dissertations. All other MA students
take Researching Art History I.
Our strong graduate programme attracts a large
number of students, many from abroad. MA seminars are mostly kept to a congenial
size of around 8-10 students. We provide close personal supervision of
coursework, dissertations and exhibition projects. Our MA courses are intended both for those seeking
employment in the art world or elsewhere and for those interested in further
research and an academic career.
Centre for Curatorial Studies (CCS)
In addition to our highly regarded MA in Gallery
Studies and Critical Curating, which includes an assessed exhibition project, we
offer an MA in Curating Contemporary Art and an MA in Curating Latin American
Art. Follow this link for further
information about the Centre.
