Graduate events

Graduate seminars

Our postgraduates organise an ongoing programme of seminars that provide regular opportunities for students to present work to their peers in an informal setting. All students are welcome to attend the seminars. If you would like to present at a future graduate seminar, please e-mail Goedele Caluwe: gsdcal (non-Essex users add @essex.ac.uk).

Graduate conference

We host an annual Graduate Conference organised by our postgraduate students. The programme is chosen following a call for papers and includes graduate presenters from Essex, as well as institutions across the UK, Europe and the world.

The theme of our 2013 graduate conference was 'Art and maps since 1945' and the keynote speaker was Professor Jonathan Harris from the University of Southampton. The 2012 graduate conference was 'Photography and the unrepresentable: a history of photographic (mis)representation' with Griselda Pollock from the University of Leeds as the keynote speaker.

The call for papers for the 2014 graduate conference will be released towards the end of autumn term 2013.

Centre for Curatorial Studies exhibitions

Every year graduate students from our Centre for Curatorial Studies organise and curate exhibitions at our University’s Art Exchange gallery as part of their course.
