Arara - Art and Architecture of the Americas
A Free Online Journal
Arara is a free online journal dedicated to publishing research into the art and architecture of the Americas from all time periods. Arara publishes up to two editions a year and is compiled and edited by postgraduate students of the School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex.
The next edition of Arara, No 11, 2012, is currently being prepared.
Submissions in the form of articles, reviews, and interviews are welcomed in English, Portuguese and Spanish or in any other language spoken in the Americas. We also consider proposals for artistic projects in the form of photographs, videos, drawings, texts, and poems depending on their suitability and viability within the website.
If you are interested in contributing to future editions of Arara, please contact one of the editors to discuss your proposal and the format requirements at admont@essex.ac.uk, sgilbe@essex.ac.uk, or idudle@essex.ac.uk.
The responsibility for the copyright of all images lies with the individual authors of each article.
Arara 1999-2004
Arara began as an online journal in 1999 with 7 editions being published up until 2004. The founding editors were Marcia Bonnet, Joanne Harwood, Adrian Locke and Charles Swainston, then postgraduate students at Essex. Later editors included Maria Clara Bernal, Isobel Whitelegg and Cristiana Bertazoni Martins.
Following a 6-year hiatus the decision was taken to relaunch Arara with a new website, so it could once again provide publishing opportunites and renew access to the journal's earlier editions. The complete Arara archive for 1999-2004 is now available through this site.
