The Task Force on Children and Armed Conflict
In 2001, Children’s Rights Alliance, England (CRAE) set up a number of Task Forces to examine the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in order to prepare an alternative NGO report for the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
The Unit chaired the Task Force on Children and Armed Conflict, which looked at the implementation of Article 38, focussing on the recruitment and deployment of children by the UK. The Centre was also on the Task Force for Juvenile Justice.
The Unit prepared the submission to the Committee on Article 38, in addition to a detailed commentary on its implementation by the UK.
In September 2002, the Unit attended the UK session before the Committee and reported on the Committee’s findings.
