End of Term Procedures
vacating rooms and return of keys
The occupancy period for all students on an undergraduate or 9
month contract
starting 02 October 2011 terminates on Saturday 30 June 2012. The
occupancy period for all other students and students on a 50 week
contract
terminates on Monday 17 September 2012.
All rooms must be vacated, cleared of belongings and locked by 10am on that day and the keys returned
to one of the offices as shown below.
The only students who may remain in their rooms after 10am on 17 September
2012 are those students who have completed a two week billing form at the main
accommodation office and have a Letter of Allocation beginning 30 September
2012.
If you are an International Academy pre-sessional student you will be
on different letting period as indicated on your letter of allocation which will
indicate the day on which you should vacate your room. If you have a term time
allocation we will contact you in regard to moving to your new room during
September.
When your license to occupy has expired, or if you vacate your room and
return your key prior to this date, housekeeping staff will prepare the room for
the next occupant.
Unfortunately, if you have left any personal items in your room,
Accommodation Essex will not be able to store such items, as we do not have the facilities
available. Therefore, any items left in your room will be disposed of. The
University of Essex will accept no liability for damages or losses arising from
the disposal of such items.
For these reasons, please ensure that you clear your room completely.

South Courts Accommodation Office
09.00 – 17.00 (16.45 Fridays)
Saturday 30 June 2012: 09.00 - 12.00
Monday 16 September 2012: 09.00 – 17.00
Main Accommodation Office opposite Tawney Tower
09.00 – 17.00 (16.45 Fridays)
Saturday 30 June 2012: 09.00 - 15.00
Monday 16 September 2012: 09.00 – 17.00
All other times - Information Centre on Square 3 which is open 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week.
University Quays Office
09.00 – 16.00 (15.30 Fridays)
Saturday 30 June 2012: 09.00 - 12.00
Monday 17 September 2012: 09.30 - 16.00
All other times – Security Desk in Hawkins Quay accommodation office which is
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
return of keys - Southend campus
Office opening hours for the return of keycards are as follows:
University Square Reception
09.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday
Saturday 30 June 2012: 09.00 - 12.00
All other times – Reception Desk in University Square is manned by
security staff who are able to take collection of your keycards upon departure
storage of luggage
The Accommodation Office is unable to store luggage or belongings
for students.
Storage for student’s luggage can be arranged
through local storage companies such as Space
Maker Self Storage, Big Yellow storage and All-unied. The Central stores
department at the Colchester campus also provide a storage service for the summer vacation
period.
