Support on campus
We pride ourselves on the friendly atmosphere and supportive environment on
our campuses. When you live on campus, you will share with students from a wide
variety of countries and cultures. This can be a very exciting and enriching
experience, but living in a large community may also bring its challenges.
We have a wide range of support services for students to help with everyday
worries in your accommodation or for practical or personal issues.
Residents' Support Network (RSN)
The Residents' Support Network aims to help students settle in to University life.
University accommodation is more than just somewhere to sleep and eat.
It's a place where social connections, academic pursuits, activities,
friendships and memories are made.
Designated Residents' Assistants (RAs) are assigned to areas of
accommodation. The RA provides:
- out-of-hours support;
- signposting to campus resources; and
- a programme of social activities.
In addition to providing support to students and building a sense of
community, the RSN team is there to help create an appropriate
atmosphere for students to study and sleep through the overnight hours.
This includes responding to issues, concerns and complaints that
residents may have by operating an on-call rota.
On-call hours
There are RSN team members on-call from:
- 5pm - 9am every weeknight of the year; and
- 24 hours every weekend of the year including
holidays.
Contact your Residents' Assistant
There is information on how to contact your RA on the posters next
to the emergency phones in all residences.
Nightline
Nightline is a confidential service run by
students for the welfare of students. There are trained volunteers to
listen to your problems, available every night during term time. They
offer an anonymous, confidential listening service and practical support
including camp bed hire, tea and toast, crash accommodation, a detox
room, condoms, pregnancy tests, panic alarms and first aid.
Student Support
Student Support is
available to all University students, providing advice and support on a
range of issues such as financial worries, immigration issues and
support for students with additional needs or specific health concerns
or simply help adjusting to University life.
Student Advice Centre
The
Student Advice Centre, run by the Students Union, offers welfare
advice to students on a range of issues. The Student Advice Centre is
located on Square 3, next to the LloydsTSB bank.
