University Quays
The Quays, Colchester.
The University Quays are the newest of the current residential areas at our
Colchester Campus and, in 2004, won in the new contemporary buildings category
at the Colchester Architecture Awards, jointly organised by Colchester 2020 and
the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The Quays are around a 15-minute walk to the centre of campus, situated at
the north edge of campus, alongside the estuary of the River Colne.
Facilities
Each of the three Quays buildings is arranged in flats for between seven and
eight students with:
- shared kitchens; and
- en suite toilet and shower facilities in each bedroom.
There is a launderette on site, and a large supermarket is just a short walk
away.

live. The flats are sociable and the kitchens act as great
meeting points; everyone can fit around the table and have a
good chat. I also have an excellent view of the river."
