Payment details for your accommodation are in your letter of allocation.
All accommodation charges are to be paid termly in advance.
How to pay
Pay online
Use the University's student online payment system to make credit/debit card payments.
You must be registered with the University and have an Essex login name and password in order to pay securely using this system. You will also need your PRID (for example, SMITH12345)
which is shown on your letter of allocation.
A discount of £16 per term is available if you pay online by the due date.
Pay at the Income and Payments Office
Visit the Income and Payments Office in person or send your payment by post. You can pay by cheque or credit/debit card (except American Express or Diners Club).

Pre-payments
Your deposit
You will need to pay a £250 pre-payment deposit (to be deducted from your first term’s rental charges) before your application can be processed.
How to pay
You can use any of these methods to pay by credit/debit card (except American Express or Diners Club):
- Pay online as part of the application process.
- Pay in person at the main Accommodation Office.
Pay by credit/debit card, or by cheque or bank draft made payable to 'University of Essex'.
Please do not try and pay your deposit at the Income Office in Finance. We
have experienced difficulty tracing such payments in the past and this option has therefore been discontinued.
Southend students
Students studying at Southend can make the pre-payment at University Square reception.

Your preferred location
On the application form you will be asked to select your preferred locations. Select these in order of preference, but do not select
any location which you would not be prepared to accept. Unfortunately we are not able to guarantee that you will be offered your first choice of accommodation.

Entering a legally binding contract
Once you have paid the pre-payment and accepted the offer, you have formed a contract which is legally
binding and as such you will not be able to give notice to leave.

If you reject your accommodation
If you reject your accommodation offer we can refund your pre-payment. However:
- you must inform us in writing by the beginning of September; and
- an administration fee of £25 will be deducted.
If we are unable to offer you accommodation your deposit will be refunded in full.

Withdrawing from the University
If you withdraw from the University you will be able to receive a refund of your pre-payment less an administration fee of £25.

Southend students
Students studying at Southend can also make the pre-payment at University Square reception, or by telephoning our Southend accommodation office on 01702 338401.

Late payment charges
- If payment is not received by the above dates, a £20 late payment fee will be charged each month.
- If any cheque is returned unpaid, a £25 administration fee will also be charged.
Any reminders that the University send will be sent via e-mail to your University e-mail address.
