Arrival Dates for New Students 2012/2013

The earliest date that you are able to move into your accommodation is the date specified in your Letter of Allocation.  If you have a course start date earlier than 1 October 2012 your allocation letter will indicate the date at which you are able to move into accommodation. We regret that it is not possible to move in prior to this date.  

Your room will be held until midday on Tuesday 2 October 2012. If you have not advised us that you will arrive after that date, the room will be offered to another student.

Students studying on courses with start dates before Monday 1 October 2012 will be expected to move into University Square before Sunday 30 September as detailed below. You will also receive a letter of allocation from this date.

If your course is not listed above and you believe that your course starts earlier than 1 October 2012 please contact the Accommodation office.

Arrival by Car - Southend campus, University Square

To reach the Campus by car, follow signs from the A13 or A127 for the Town Centre. A map of the Southend Campus is available online. There is a pay and display car park (Farringdon Road) opposite the Main Administration building, the Gateway Building, in Elmer Avenue. There is also a car park underneath the South East Essex College building on Elemer Approach, operated on a pay on exit basis. Please note that the University does not have its own parking facilities and that charges will apply for using the public car parks in close to the University.

Other Transport

The University can arrange a group pick-up service for international students for Southend Campus who are flying in to Heathrow Airport, if we are advised in advance. Further details of these arrangements and the associated costs will be provided to you within your Summer mailing pack along with information on transport links from all local UK airports to Southend Campus. If you require further information you may wish to contact Student Support on ssos (non essex users will need to add @essex.ac.uk to complete the email address).

If you are travelling by train the nearest train station to University Square is Southend Victoria which is approximately 5 - 10 minutes walk from University Square.

Key Issue  

You will be able to collect your keys directly from reception at University Square which is located inside the main entrance on Queens Road. The Reception desk is staffed by Accommodation Advisors Monday to Thursday from 09.00 to 17.00 and 09.00 to 16.45 on Fridays. Additionally reception will be open during the following period for intake day key collections:
