Information for New Students:
What You Need to Know

The University of Essex Colchester campus is currently able to accommodate approximately 50% of its student population in residences within walking distance of teaching and administrative buildings. In order to ensure that rooms are let as fairly as possible an allocation policy is in place which is reviewed annually in line with the university’s development.

All full-time fully registered undergraduate students studying at both Colchester and Southend are entitled to single accommodation for their first year of study. On line applications are now available. Students who are usually resident in the borough of Colchester are welcome to apply for accommodation but are given a lower priority and are excluded from the accommodation guarantee. Undergraduate students should return their forms by  the 26th August 2011  in order to qualify for their entitlement.

Colchester Institute: A small number of rooms are currently provided at the University Quays for new undergraduate students studying at Colchester Institute. Applications are made via the  Student Support Office at Colchester Institute. Please contact Sandie McAleavy via 01206 712296.

Postgraduate Accommodation Update 1 August 2011 - Colchester Campus

Please note that as of 1 August 2011 all accommodation set aside for new postgraduates at North Towers, University Quays and en-suite at Candan House is full. At present there are still vacancies in our off-campus locations at Forest Road House, Candan House and Avon Way House. Please note that none of these vacancies are en-suite.  Further details regarding these areas of accommodation are available here. We cannot tell how long these vacancies will last and we therefore recommend new applicants to return their online applications and GBPounds250 deposit as soon as possible. In the event that we are unable to offer accommodation the GBPounds250 deposit will be refunded in full.

Students studying at the Southend campus should visit the Southend campus accommodation web pages for information regarding Accommodation at Southend.

All student accommodation at the East 15 campus is private sector accommodation. Further information regarding private sector accommodation including a student-2-student notice board is available from the Private Sector East 15 web pages.
