Returning students

Loving living on Campus? Want to see if you can do it again next year?

We have rooms available for overseas returning undergraduate students and all returning postgraduate students in Colchester and all returning students in Southend. Applications for Colchester are now closed, applications for Southend remain open and will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. For those who would like to live with your friends make sure you list all their PRIDs when applying. Each of your friends must also submit their own application.

When you fill in your application form, list your choice of locations in order of preference. Don't select any type of room you are not prepared to accept. You can see all the different options here however not all accommodation areas will be available to returning students for 2016-17.

Payment

Don't worry about the money at this stage. When you receive an accommodation offer you have one week to accept and pay your £250 prepayment. You will be able to make this payment by credit/debit card as part of the online acceptance process.

If you are applying to live at our Colchester campus you can also pay by credit/debit card or UK cheque at the Information Desk in the Student Services Hub. Payments cannot be made at the Cash Desk or via online student payments.

If you are applying to live at our Southend campus you can also pay by credit/debit card or UK cheque at the Student Services Hub. Payments can be made at the Cash Desk, but please ensure you specify that the payment is for your accommodation prepayment. Payments cannot be made via online student payments.

If you accept your accommodation offer you will enter into a legal contract with Accommodation Essex and you will be liable to pay the rent for your room for the period stated on your offer letter.

  • Intermitting students

    What you need to do

    If you have withdrawn temporarily from the University (intermitted) during the first term of the first year of study and decide to return to the University the following academic year, you may re-apply for accommodation.

    How to apply

    Contact us in January of the year in which you intend to return to your studies.

  • Returning undergraduate students - Colchester Campus

    What you need to do

    Returning overseas (non EU) undergraduate students

    Before completing an application, please ensure you read the application guide (.doc) carefully.

    All overseas (non EU) undergraduate students are guaranteed accommodation as long as you apply by 5pm on Friday 15 January 2016.

    How to apply

    Applications are now closed.

    An accommodation pre-payment is no longer required at the point of application. Instead, it will be payable when your offer is accepted.

    You will be able to pay by credit/debit card as part of your online acceptance of the accommodation contract or by credit/debit card or UK cheque in person at the Information Desk in the Student Services Hub.

    Important: do not try and make your pre-payment separately via Online Student Payments or at the Cash Desk. We will have difficulty in tracing such payments.

    On the application form you will be asked to select your preferred locations. Please select these in order of preference and do not select any location which you would not be prepared to accept. We cannot guarantee that you will be offered your first choice of accommodation.

    You are welcome to request an allocation with your friends. You should list the PRIDs of these students in the 'additional information' field on the online application form. Each of your friends must also submit their own separate application and have the same preferences as you.

    Returning EU/UK undergraduate students - Colchester Campus

    We do not have any availability at this time for returning EU/UK undergraduate students for 2016-17 at the Colchester Campus.

  • Returning postgraduate students - Colchester campus

    Returning postgraduate students - Colchester Campus

    A limited number of rooms are available for returning postgraduate students. Allocation will be made on a first-come first-served basis.

  • Part-year incoming Study Abroad students

    What we offer

    We try to accommodate as many part-year students as possible, but accommodation may be limited.

    A number of rooms will be made available to part-year students. Applications will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Students who apply after the quota of rooms is reached will be allocated empty rooms, if these exist, in date order of receipt of application, until all rooms have been filled. Remaining part-year students will be placed on the waiting list.

    If you have already completed an application form for accommodation prior to commencing your study abroad period, you are not required to fill out another one. Please check with the Study Abroad Office and they will be able to advise you.

    All applications for part-year Study Abroad students are required to be made via Study Abroad and not via the applicant portal.

    How to apply

    You can apply for accommodation through Essex Abroad and we will then allocate you accommodation via our waiting list.

  • Returning undergraduate and postgraduate students - Southend Campus

    What we offer

    All students who apply by 5pm on Friday 15 January 2016 and go on to accept their offer, will be guaranteed £200 credit back.

    • You will be able to apply for accommodation after 15 January 2016, but applications received after the closing date will not be eligible for this promotional offer.
    • This promotion does not include free summer vacation accommodation.
    • If you would like to live with your friends make sure you list all their PRIDs when applying. Each of your friends must also submit their own application.

    Returning overseas (non EU) undergraduate students

  • South Essex College students

    What we offer

    You can apply to live in University Square if you are a SEC higher or further education student over the age of 18.

    Although we will make every effort to offer you accommodation in 2016-17 please note that this is not guaranteed.

    All students who apply by 5pm on Friday 15 January 2016 and go on to accept their offer, will be guaranteed £200 credit back.

    • You will be able to apply for accommodation after 15 January 2016, but applications received after the closing date will not be eligible for this promotional offer.
    • This promotion does not include free summer vacation accommodation.
