How to Apply for Accommodation
The accommodation office will be using an
online application system for new undergraduate and new
postgraduate students. Returning students currently studying at Southend
can complete an online application form from the main
Southend accommodation
information page. Applications for overseas fee status returning
students currently studying at Colchester have now closed for
2012/2013. The University
does not have its own accommodation at the Loughton campus. Further
information on finding house mates is available from the student to
student notice board for students studying at
East 15.
Applications
Accommodation brochures will be either electronically distributed
or mailed to all new students
starting a course in 2012/13 by the Admissions Office indicating
when applications will open. The accommodation brochure can be
viewed as a PDF file from the
publications index page.

Applications for the waiting list for university accommodation
for the current academic year are no longer available. If you wish

New
Postgraduates - how to apply online
Applications for New Postgraduate students commencing their
courses at Colchester and Southend Campuses in October 2012 are now available online through your
Essex Applicant Portal. It can take up to
72 hours for the relevant data to be imported into your portal from the point of
creation so if you have not yet created an applicant record in the portal you
should do so as soon as possible.
The deadline for applications from new Overseas status postgraduate students is
Tuesday 31st July 2012. Students applying after this date will not be guaranteed
accommodation. There are a limited number of rooms available for new UK and EU
postgraduate students and these are allocated on a first-come first-served
basis.
Please note it is necessary to pay a GBPounds250 deposit to secure
accommodation. You will be able to make this payment by credit/debit card as
part of the online application process. Please note: this
deposit is not an extra payment and will be deducted from your
first term's rent.
Please also note that you will not be able to apply if:
- You have only just created an applicant portal account (it
can take up to 72 hours for your data to be imported into all
the relevant systems.
- You have not received an offer of academic study at Essex
for 2012/13.
- You have not accepted your offer of academic study.
- You do not have a PRID (e.g. SMITH12345) in the myAdmin
section of the Applicant Portal.
All full-time fully registered undergraduate
students studying at both Colchester and Southend are entitled to
single accommodation for their first year of study unless you are
currently a resident within the respective boroughs. On line
applications will open later on in the summer. Students who are
usually resident in the boroughs of Colchester and Southend are
welcome to apply for accommodation but are given a lower priority
and are excluded from the accommodation guarantee.
Applications are made through your
Essex Applicant Portal.
It can take up to 24 hours for the relevant data to be imported into
your portal from the point of creation so if you have not yet
created an applicant portal you should do so as soon as possible.
Bridging year students are eligible for an allocation of
accommodation in their bridging year and for subsequent years of
their course providing they are classified as overseas students by
the University. If you are intending to apply for accommodation in
the current academic year please contact the accommodation office.
New students studying for the Certificate of Higher Education
through the International Academy are entitled to university
accommodation for the duration of this course. If you are intending
to apply for accommodation in the current academic year please
contact the accommodation office.
Waiting list for
accommodation 2012/13 academic year - how to apply online
Applications for the waiting list for university accommodation
for the 2012/2013 academic year will be available from early
September.
In order to apply for
the waiting list for university accommodation you will need to
be a fully registered student for the coming academic year. You
will not be offered accommodation if you have made an
agreement with a landlord in the private sector.
Offers will not be made to students who have a debt to the
university; who are waiting for re-sit results; or where there is
any other query regarding registration for the next academic year.
Once debt is cleared or positive re-sit results are confirmed students will
be eligible to receive an offer when rooms are available.
The accommodation office will review the situation regarding room
availability regularly and further information will then be published
on the
waiting list information pages.
You will need the PRID number from your registration card (five
letters followed by five numbers) or, if you are a new postgraduate
student, your PG number in order to complete the application form.
Students who are classified overseas by the University are given priority for
an allocation of a single room providing they remain fully registered and study
full-time. Applications for Accommodation for 2012/2013 closed on 14 March 2012.
If you did not apply and pay your deposit before the deadline we will not be
able to offer you a room. You will need to find alternative accommodation for
2012/2013; please see above for information on applying through the waiting
list.
You will need Acrobat Reader to view the PDF file (the reader is
probably on your computer already, but it is also available for free
from the
Adobe
website). Note for visually-impaired users: Adobe provide
a free online tool which converts PDF files to a format which can be
used with screen-reading programs. This is available on the
Adobe Accessibility site.
