Southend University Square accommodation
The University's colourful new student accommodation has become a vibrant
addition to the Southend skyline. This purpose built, state of the art, student
accommodation is an ideal base for students studying at the Southend campus
being only a few minutes walk from the campus buildings, vibrant Southend high
street and main line rail stations.
The development of the 561-room University
Square includes modern en suite bedrooms situated within flats of eight to ten
residents sharing a kitchen. There is also a large selection of self contained studio flats
ideal for those wishing to have their own living and kitchen space or for those
wishing to share with a partner.

Applying for University Square accommodation
Information for new Students starting a course in 2012
New undergraduate University of
Essex applications are made through your
Essex Applicant Portal
and are available in June.
It can take up to 72 hours for the relevant data to be imported into
your portal from the point of creation so if you have not yet
created an applicant portal you should do so as soon as possible.
If you are a South Essex College(SEC) Higher Education
or Further education student over the age of 18 you can apply to live
in University Square. We are the only official accommodation provider endorsed
by SEC. All SEC students are housed in their own area of University Square and
have the opportunity to take advantage of all the benefits of living in this
purpose built student accommodation whilst experiencing the internationally
culture created through the diverse range of study programs represented at
University Square. The fabulous common room and Residents' Assistants programs
will give you the opportunity to meet students studying not only the various SEC
courses but also degree programs from Stage Combat to Entrepreneurship and
Dentistry.

Accommodation information regarding University Square is also available in

This purpose built University student accommodation, University Square opened in
September 2010. The accommodation has 561 student rooms in 7 houses
situated around a central enclosed courtyard. All rooms are en-suite and there
is generally 8 to 10 student bedrooms in each flat sharing a communal kitchen.
There is also a selection of self contained studio flats suitable for either
single or couple occupancy that have their own kitchenette as well as en-suite
bathroom facilities. Some of the studio flats have been adapted for wheel
chair users.
Each study bedroom is networked and basic internet access is provided at
no additional cost. Cablecom provide the internet service at University
Square which includes a wealth of additional features that you can access
directly from your room. The large common room, which boasts both areas for joint
study and relaxing, also benefits from internet access. Satellite style
television provision through the data network is also available along with large screen satellite TV in the
spacious common room.
A dedicated Accommodation team is based at University Square
offering a 24 hour reception/security presence, a regular cleaning service
in the communal areas of the flats and an out of hours resident support
team.

The Accommodation Office will contact you with an offer of accommodation in
April. Accommodation Essex expects to be able to offer all returning
students studying at the Southend campus accommodation in the new University
Square Residence. Please note that you will receive all communication
regarding your application by email to the address you provide on your
application.
Students with Families
Accommodation for students with families is not available in
University administered accommodation but should be possible
directly through the
private sector. Assistance in contacting local landlords and letting
agents will be available through the Accommodation Office. Please
email scaccom (non-Essex users should add @essex.ac.uk to create
full e-mail address).
We strongly advise you not to bring your family when you first arrive unless
you have pre-arranged accommodation. More details about housing and childcare
