Who's who on campus

(a guide to the people and places concerned with access issues)

  • Student Support Office: Angela Jones (Assistant Director of the Disability Team) - email: disab

  • Equality and Diversity Unit: Syd Kent (Equality and Diversity Officer) - email: syd

  • Careers Centre

  • Students' Union: Leo Capella (Students With Disabilities, SWD) - email: lcapel

There are approximately 600 students with disabilities in the Students' Union. The SWD Committee and Officer are an elected group of people responsible for taking questions forward on behalf of disabled students (whether or not officially diagnosed), and campaigning on their issues.
They can do this most effectively when they hear directly from students about their concerns, so be in touch!
  • Multi-Faith Chaplaincy: Reverend Thomas Yap - email: tyap

Rev. Thomas Yap is the Anglican Chaplain and Chair of the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy.
He is fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and has worked previously as a BSL Communication Support voluntary worker with the local council, a leader of the Deaf church, and as Trustee of a special school serving pupils with learning difficulties including severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders and profound language and communication difficulties.

Alongside providing spiritual care, he is also a Pastoral Counsellor working under the ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This service is provided for staff and students of all faiths or none.
