Information on accessible parking for students and staff

Location and registration fees

The main car parks are located on the fringes of the campus within short walking distance of the main buildings. Drivers with disabilities may be allocated spaces either in one of the car parks or under the podia.

The registration fee for disabled drivers allocated spaces on campus (staff and students) is payable, but the daily pay and display charges are not.

CAUTION: any vehicle parked in designated spaces without displaying a blue badge and the correct registration sticker will be clamped.

To apply for an allocated space

Separate processes exist for students and staff respectively. Once confirmation is received via one of these application routes, the paperwork is processed by the Estate Management Helpdesk (as for all drivers). All queries regarding parking for drivers with disabilities are subsequently dealt with by the Security Office on ext 2971.

Students

The University has some parking spaces for disabled students near the residences as well as under podia (beneath the main campus). These spaces are limited and can only be offered to students who are Blue Badge holders (NB. if you are not a blue badge holder but have a mobility difficulty, you may still be able to park on campus whilst you live here.

  • Frequent visitors, requiring accessible parking on a regular basis, should contact the Estates Helpdesk (01206 872959 or 872300)
  • Visitors requiring under podia parking (limited) should contact the Security Office (01026 872971).

Location of accessible parking for visitors

  • South side of campus: approach via Boundary Road (South), into Park Road. Take last left turning into public car parks (before road bends sharply right towards Wivenhoe House). 2 designated spaces are available in the furthest corner, with access on to campus via the path to the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall (linking to BLUE access route)
  • North side of campus: approach from Boundary Road (North) and turn left into the North Towers. Head right towards the towers. 2 designated spaces are available just before the barrier (alternatively, 10 further spaces are available adjacent to the residential houses, although the route to campus from here is longer).
