A. Essential

  Project Description
1 Southend – refurbishment of former URC Subject to planning 1272 m2 for E15 satisfies the School’s planned commitments, but will not be available in time for September 2008. Complete.
2 Southend – Complete fit-out of Gateway Building Completion of floors 5 and 2. Floor 5 critical for 2008/09. Complete.
3 Colchester – Lakeside Theatre new entrance Scheme will satisfy a legal requirement and provide a recognised entrance to the Theatre. This could be subsumed into project B9.
4 Loughton – replace 8 no. temporary buildings Eight buildings/spaces require permanent replacement. Currently this amounts to 464 m2 but some reduction by rationalisation may be possible.


B. High Priority

  Project Description
1 Colchester – re-sign the campus externally Remove existing, replace with new, similar design. Totem sign in each square.
2 Colchester – re-sign the campus internally. Overhaul all internal signage and complete to new house style.
3 Colchester – clean and enhance existing buildings A second clean of the original academic concrete buildings, re-covering the under window panels.
4 Colchester – replace temporary buildings Portacabins (354 m2) and Social Studies Link Building (322 m2) replaced by 837 m2.
5 Colchester – refurbish Square 2  
6 Colchester – refurbish Square 5 Assumes non structural central feature.
7 Colchester – improvements to Squares 1, 3 and 4 Repair and enhance the original refurbishment of these spaces.
8 Colchester – Student Centre Landmark building – student focussed to resolve a number of problem areas in a way that creates community ownership of the space – Library, Accommodation Office, Reception/Helpdesk, Teaching, Integrated Learning, Academic spaces, Catering, Council Room, Lakeside Piazza for example. 8934 m2 total adjoining existing Library Building.
9 Colchester – redevelop Sports Pavilion Demolish existing and replace with two storey (1210 m2).
10 Colchester – 25 m Swimming Pool Option 2 of SMC Charter Architects Development Plan for the Sports Centre. Standalone building with changing, learner pool and w.c.’s.
11 Colchester – Sports Hall New 4 court Sports Hall
12 Southend – Additional facilities Elmer Square development
13 Colchester – Research Facilities Utilise HEFCE allocation for research within capital allocation (schemes to be determined). (RCIF)
14 All campuses – interactive remote teaching facilities Integrate communication media between campuses in line with ISS Strategy.
15 All campuses – Networking Re-engineering and refresh
16 Colchester – Telephone System Replace PABX
17 All campuses – Management Information IHR project
18 All campuses – IT infrastructure Re-engineering and refresh
19 All campuses Academic equipment – research, teaching and general – £300k per annum


C. Self Financing

  Project Description
1 Colchester – extended fitness suite to Sports Centre Existing facility increased by 450 m2.
2 Colchester – Knowledge Gateway Develop total site infrastructure, Research Park Phase 1 and office village
3 Student Residences – Southend London Road (Hollybrook) site
4 Student Residences – Colchester Meadows site – Phase 1 350 units
5 Student Residences – Colchester Meadows site – Phase 2 500 units
6 Student Residences – Colchester Meadows site – Phase 3 350 units
7 Wivenhoe House Hotel Refurbishment – as part of Hotel School project.


D. New projects - September 2008

  Project Description
1. Colchester – Temporary teaching space 8 no. seminar rooms to accommodate over recruitment of students for 2008/09. Complete.
2. Colchester – Refurbishment of the Blues Café Update worn-out facility following customer survey. Complete.
3. Southend – Mezzanine to SU facility Phase 2 following popularity of Phase 1 project. Complete.
4. Colchester – Conversion of Hex to UECLAA gallery Progression totally dependent on external funding.
