Travelling to Southend Campus

Finding your way to our Southend Campus, located in the heart of the bustling seaside town, couldn’t be easier.

Travelling from airports

  • London Southend

    Our Southend Campus is just 1.7 miles (2.8km) from London Southend Airport. You can travel from the airport by bus or train.

  • London Stansted

    Coach services

    London Stansted Airport is an hour away by road and you can catch the X30 Aircoach which takes you direct to Southend Bus Station. Services run hourly and will normally take 1 hour 30 minutes approximately.

    Train services

    You can not travel directly from Stansted to Southend by train. We therefore recommend that you travel by coach as this will be much quicker.

  • London Heathrow

    Coach services

    New international students arriving at the start of the academic year via London Heathrow Airport can use our airport transfer coach service to travel to our Southend Campus. You’ll need to book your seat in advance.

    Public coach services from Heathrow to Southend are operated by National Express. The University is located a short walk from Southend Bus Station.

    Train services

    Southend has two train stations, Southend Central (which is opposite the University campus) and Southend Victoria (which is a short walk from the campus).

    Southend Victoria

    From Heathrow take an Underground train to Holborn, and then Central line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street Station. Alternatively, from Heathrow you can take a Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station in London and then get on the Underground, Circle line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street Station.

    Once at Liverpool Street Station you need to take a train to Southend Victoria Station. The journey takes about two hours.

    Southend Central

    From Heathrow take an Underground train to South Kensington Station, and then a Circle or District line train, eastbound, to Tower Hill and then a short walk to Fenchurch Street Station. Alternatively, you can take a Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station in London and then get on an Underground Circle line, eastbound, to Tower Hill and then take a short walk to Fenchurch Street Station.

    Once at Fenchurch Street Station you need to take a train to Southend Central Station. The journey takes about two hours.

  • London Gatwick

    Coach services

    Southend Central

    You can take a Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station in London and then either a taxi or an Underground train (Circle or District line, eastbound) to Tower Hill, from where it is a short walk to Fenchurch Street Station. From Fenchurch Street Station take the train to Southend Central Station. The journey takes about 2 hours 15 minutes.

    Southend Victoria

    You can take a Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station in London and then either a taxi or an Underground train (Circle line, eastbound) to Liverpool Street Station. From Liverpool Street Station take the train to Southend Victoria Station. The journey takes about 2 hours 30 minutes.

  • London Luton

    Coach services

    Public coach services from Luton Airport to Southend are operated by National Express. The University is located a short walk from Southend Bus Station.

    Train services

    Southend Victoria

    From Luton Airport you can take the Thameslink train, which will take you to Farringdon. Join the Underground at Farringdon and take either the Circle line, the Metropolitan line or the Hammersmith and City line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street. From Liverpool Street Station take a train to Southend Victoria.

    Southend Central

    From Luton Airport you can take the Thameslink train, which will take you to Farringdon. Join the Underground at Farringdon and take either the Circle Line, the Metropolitan Line or the Hammersmith and City Line, eastbound, to Tower Hill and then make the short walk to Fenchurch Street Station.

  • Airport taxi services

    Taxis are available from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton or Stansted airports. We advise you to check the cost before commencing your journey as it can be expensive. Stansted will be cheaper as it is nearer to the University. We recommend that you book in advance from the list of taxi companies provided and do not just take a taxi from outside the airport.
