Global Alliance

Our Global Alliance is establishing links with leading universities around the world. So far we have signed partnership agreements with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, India, and the University of Konstanz in south-west Germany. Like Essex, our Global Alliance partners are renowned for their research excellence and commitment to high-quality teaching.

Our Global Alliance partners

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi

  • Received Mother Teresa International Award for best university in 2011.
  • Recognised centres of excellence in the social sciences include historical studies; social systems; political studies; economic studies and planning; and regional development.
  • Other centres of excellence in the sciences include physical sciences, life sciences and environmental sciences.

Find out more on the Jawaharlal Nehru University website.

University of Konstanz

  • Konstanz is home to more than 10,000 students from more than 92 countries.
  • Researchers from Konstanz have won the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz prize, worth €2.5 million, no less than six times.
  • The University opened in 1966 and like Essex was inspired by new approaches to studying and teaching.

Find out more on the University of Konstanz website.

Our approach to the Global Alliance

Our strategic vision is to be a powerful regional university with global impact. As part of this our Global Alliance is seeking out universities with overlapping and complementary research interests. We also want to use our Global Alliance to develop new opportunities for students to study abroad and establish joint educational opportunities.

Our first agreement with the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, was signed in 2010 and the second with the University of Konstanz in south-west Germany was signed in 2011.

We want to continue to expand our Global Alliance further and develop even closer links with our partners as the alliance progresses.

Delegations from Essex and JNU have already taken part in exchange visits involving academics from Language and Linguistics, Philosophy, Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies, East 15 Acting School, Essex Business School, Law and the Human Rights Centre.
