Travelling by Coach

Stansted to Colchester

From Stansted Airport you can travel to Colchester by bus, which runs hourly from the terminal forecourt, and brings you to the University of Essex Colchester Campus. This is a journey time of approximately one hour. This service runs from 4am to 12am daily.

Public transport coaches to Colchester

Coach services from Luton, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports, and London Victoria train station to Colchester are operated by National Express.

Travelling by Train

Gatwick to Colchester

From Gatwick Airport you can take a Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station in London, and then either a taxi or an underground train (eastbound on the Circle Line) to Liverpool Street Station. From Liverpool Street Station you will need to take the train to Colchester Station. The whole journey will take about two hours.

Heathrow to Colchester

From Heathrow Airport you can take an underground train to Liverpool Street Station in London. You will need to take the Piccadilly Line, eastbound, to South Kensington Station, and then the Circle Line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street Station.

Alternatively, you can take a Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station in London and then get on the underground (eastbound on the Circle Line) to Liverpool Street Station. Once at Liverpool Street Station you will need to take a train to Colchester Station. The whole journey takes approximately two and a half hours.

Luton to Colchester

From Luton Airport you can take the Thameslink train, which will take you to Farringdon. Join the Underground at Farringdon, and take either the Circle Line, the Metropolitan Line or the Hammersmith and City Line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street Station.

Stansted to Colchester

The Colchester Campus is not far from Stansted Airport, however you cannot travel directly from Stansted to Colchester by train. We therefore recommend that you travel by bus as this will be much quicker.

Please note: You can buy a train ticket from either Heathrow, Gatwick or Luton airports directly to Colchester - you do not have to buy a new ticket each time you change train.

Travelling by Taxi

Taxis are available from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton or Stansted airports. We advise you to check the cost before commencing your journey as it can be expensive, possibly as much as £115. Stansted will be cheaper as it is nearer to the University; approximately £45. We recommend that you book in advance from the list of taxi companies provided below and do not just take a taxi from outside the airport.
