It is a legal requirement to carry out Health and Safety risk assessments where significant risk has been identified. The University's risk assessment form can be used for general risk assessments. However, some risk assessments are relevant across the University and several generic risk assessments have been developed. You can download these and modify them to suit your situation.
Usually this is the employee responsible for managing the work activity, equipment, substance or environment where there is significant risk. This may be an employee, the principle investigator, a manager or a supervisor. If you are unsure whether you need to carry out a risk assessment speak to your line manager or your Health and Safety Link Advisor.
HSAS runs bespoke risk assessment courses for those who have to carry out risk assessments. The course can be delivered in your workplace and focused on the work you do.
