At Edge Hotel School, University of Essex, we place a huge emphasis on combining industry-engaged learning, practical education and real-world hands-on experiences.

Our mission is simple, to prepare students to succeed as professionals from their first day on the job.

On campus our students acquire work experience within Wivenhoe House Hotel, which is a striking 4* country house hotel and home to the Edge Hotel School. During the academic term our students will manage their academic studies alongside gaining hands-on work experience.

To further prepare our students for their careers after university, we actively encourage them to gain external work experience or internship opportunities wherever possible to go alongside their time in Wivenhoe House Hotel.

By gaining an array of real-world experiences our students can create lifelong connections with industry professionals and organisations prior to graduating. They also get the opportunity to put their academic understanding into practice and inspire organisations to re-think and challenge their own operations and procedures.

Here at Edge, we view the hotel internship experience as a pivotal moment in our hospitality students’ lives, where they get to decide in which direction to take their careers. Our Industry Engaged Education Programme at Edge aims to prepare our graduates to be ready to take on the junior to middle management role feeling confident, connected to industry and supported by their university.

Across the summer our students have taken on various opportunities to strengthen their CVs whilst immersing themselves into the industry prior to graduating. From exclusive private members clubs and luxury hotels to prestigious sporting venues, our students have spent their summers working extremely hard and we could not be prouder.

Aurora and Breeze holding their certificates in 5 Hertford Street

"After visiting The Edge Hotel School in January, we were very impressed with the professionalism of the students, the facilities provided and quality of the teaching and practical training. Following a well organised internship recruitment process in collaboration with the school, we were pleased to make offers to Aurora Bolognesi to complete an internship placement in Reception/ Front of House and to Breeze Parker- Soussi, to complete an internship placement in Events & Reservations. During their time with us, both students demonstrated the attributes required to work successfully in luxury hospitality. They were dedicated, hardworking, committed and most importantly, respectful of their colleagues, our members, and their environment. We have no doubt that Aurora and Breeze will go on to complete their studies successfully and forge careers within the hospitality industry and we look forward to keeping in contact with them as this happens. They are always welcome back to 5 Hertford Street!"

"Lucy has been an asset to our team during a very busy wedding season. She has taken on a variety of different tasks and has approached them all diligently and with enthusiasm. At Baddow Park House we have extremely high standards and Lucy has demonstrated that she can not only meet these but exceed them. We request feedback from our couples after their wedding and we have found that Lucy has been mentioned by name on numerous occasions."
