Biography

Sophia joined the university in 2021. Before that, she worked primarily in acute and forensic mental health sectors across the life spectrum, in both statutory and non-statutory contexts, from local to global levels. She runs an independent psychological practice as an accredited BACP psychotherapist, supervisor, and trainer, delivering therapeutic interventions alongside associates. In the voluntary sector, she has co-created psychological therapy services with diverse communities. Combining her therapeutic and mental healthcare knowledge as a MH nurse, she also offers medically focussed therapeutic practice. Her expertise encompasses advanced knowledge and the application of emerging therapeutic and healthcare modalities, integrating VR and data-driven technologies in within research and practice. Sophia has lectured on psychotherapy, forensic psychology, and health science courses at other UK universities. Her specific teaching and research interests include: - Societal constructions of mental health and emerging diagnostic paradigms. - Screening and assessment tools in mental health. - Lived experience expertise in research and services. - Self-reflexivity, philosophy, and practice. Digital innovation in healthcare and psychological provision: - The implications of digital technology and artificial intelligence for human relationships, identity, and healthcare/therapeutic provision. - Digital competencies for future healthcare/psychological provision. Climate, society, and health: - The impact of climate on healthcare and the delivery of extreme medicine.
